Smoking and obesity are independent predictors of mortality, but smoking and being obese, especially when combined, significantly increase the mortality risk. Studies have shown that individuals who smoke and are obese have a much higher risk of developing chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and certain cancers, which in turn leads to an increased risk of premature death. Research indicates that the combined effects of smoking and obesity can exacerbate the negative health outcomes, making it even more critical for individuals to manage both risk factors for better overall health and longevity. The synergistic effects of smoking and obesity highlight the importance of lifestyle changes such as smoking cessation and weight management in reducing health risks.
