Deafness is defined as the loss of hearing at any frequency greater than 20 dB. In my OPD, I have found that this category of patients includes individuals with a range of hearing impairments, from mild to severe. The causes of deafness can vary, including genetic factors, age-related hearing loss, noise-induced damage, infection, or trauma. Early detection and intervention are crucial for effective treatment and rehabilitation. In many cases, hearing aids, cochlear implants, and speech therapy can significantly improve communication and quality of life for patients suffering from hearing loss.
