Antibiotic Resistance – How to Tackle It?? 1 – Avoid misuse at the level of pharmacies and RMO doctors, as antibiotics are often prescribed without proper indication, leading to unnecessary usage and growing resistance. 2 – Farmers must stop the routine use of antibiotics in livestock and poultry as growth promoters, a major contributor to antibiotic resistance transferring from animals to humans. 3 – Public awareness is essential—patients should be educated not to demand antibiotics for viral infections like cold and flu. 4 – Complete the full course of antibiotics as prescribed, even if symptoms improve early, to prevent partially resistant bacteria from surviving. 5 – Strengthen infection prevention and control practices in hospitals and clinics to reduce the spread of resistant bacteria. 6 – Encourage investment in research and development of new antibiotics and alternative therapies. 7 – Implement strict national policies on antibiotic sale, use, and advertisement to ensure responsible practices. Tackling antibiotic resistance requires a coordinated effort from healthcare professionals, government, farmers, and the public. If we don’t act now, we risk a future where common infections become untreatable.
