A small but significant percentage (6%) of patients with Graves’ disease show elevated plasma levels of immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4), suggesting that IgG4-related diseases may play a role in the pathophysiology of Graves’ disease. Elevated IgG4 levels could indicate an underlying immune dysregulation, possibly contributing to the autoimmune nature of the disease. This finding may open up new avenues for understanding the complex mechanisms of autoimmune thyroid diseases and could help in identifying patients who may benefit from targeted therapies addressing IgG4-related pathways.
